Let's explore the summary and key points of NCERT class 6 Social Science Chapter 1
✍Key Points/ Summary
- 🌐What is Globe?
- A globe is a small model of the Earth.

Longitute : Lines of longitude (also called meridians) run between the geographic North Pole and the geographic South Pole and are used to measure distances from the prime meridian. Both latitude and longitude are measured in degrees (°).Prime meridian divides the earth in to western and eastern hemisphers.📍Important Latitudes:
- Equator (0°) - Divides Earth into Northern & Southern Hemispheres
- Tropic of Cancer (23½°N)
- Tropic of Capricorn(23½°S)
- Arctic Circle(66½°N)
- Antartic Circle(66½°S)
- Prime Meridian (0° Longitude)
- International date Line (180° Longitude)
- Latitudes (horizontal lines) + Longitudes (vertical lines) = Grid
- The grid helps in locating any place on earth exactly.
- Earth rotates 360° in 24 hours - 15° per hour
- India follows IST (Indian Standard Time) - based on 82½°E
